During emergency braking, the ABS provides maximum braking force while keeping the front wheels turning. ABS is an anti-lock system that ensures the wheels do not lock during emergency braking, thus maintaining steering ability. ABS is a safety brake control system with anti-skid and anti-lock advantages. Vehicles without ABS cannot brake gradually in emergencies and can only stomp on the brakes, causing wheel lockup which, combined with vehicle inertia, leads to dangerous skidding, veering, and loss of control. With ABS, the brakes can be applied 60-120 times per second when the wheels are about to lock, equivalent to braking and releasing constantly, or mechanical "pulse" braking. So ABS prevents loss of control and wheel skid during emergency braking, prevents lockup, keeps tires in contact with the ground, increases friction, and achieves over 90% braking efficiency.
