Per Article 6 of the "Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China and its implementing regulations", if a registered motor vehicle has any of the following changes, the owner shall apply for a registration of change at the registering traffic administrative department: (1) changing the body color; (2) replacing the engine; (3) replacing the body or frame; (4) the entire vehicle being replaced by the manufacturer due to quality problems; (5) changing an operating vehicle to non-operating, or vice versa; (6) the owner moving out of or into the department's jurisdiction.
